My 3400 HSt was new in dec 2006 and recently developed an intermittent starting problem, sometimes it would go etc..

We thought it was a faulty kill switch under the seat but after the dealer (warranty work - quite helpful so far) sent a mechanic 80 miles to change the switch we found - it's not the switch.

Now the tractor is sitting outside the house, with the BH bucket and FEL down so I can't winch it onto a trailer.

The dealer is coming back Monday and says he can move FEL by forcing the cylinders with a come along - what do you think, I'm not too thrilled by that.

Also, has anyone else experienced this problem? The dealer doesn't seem to know what the fault might be yet ( says electrical somewhere) and my experience of these situations is that this will just mean ages in the shop.

Any guidance you guys can give would be very welcome.

Try rocking the hydrostatic pedal back and forth, allowing it to return to it's functional position on it's own. The safety switch on the foot pedal has been a problem. My tractor is suffering this now, but I do know where to look to get it back running.

As well, make sure you haven't snagged a PTO or gear lever and pulled it into a less than fully disengaged position.

Tony…
You or the dealer should easily be able to start it to load on a trailer.
The only thing that can intermittently keep it from starting is, the fuel cut off or the starter circuit is open so it will not turn the engine over.
If it’s the fuel shut off, disconnect it or block the thing so it will not shut off the fuel.
If it is the starter solenoid circuit that is preventing the starter, you can activate the starter at the starter, by bypassing the interlocking safety switches and activating it directly at the starter. This will allow you to load it, or drive it to a more convenient place to work on… KennyV.

Thanks to all of you who responded. I tried the solution proposed by crbr, rocking the transmission pedal - and it worked - made my day!

Just proves the point that to get a good answer you have to ask those who know.

Thanks again.

Thanks for this thread......I was packing up today and this happened...never thought to mess with the pedal until I read this and it started up after a couple of pushes.
