L35: BH vs 3PT

I used a L35 for a second time yesterday(a rental unit). While checking it out, there is 3PT and PTO on the machine. I had a couple questions for those who use the L35:

How hard is it to switch out the BH for the 3pt, and vica-versa? How long does it take to switch?

How is the L35 to use, with 3pt equipment? Would it run a 5' rotary mower ok?

Will it run TnT with a 3pt?

The L35 seemed like a versatile machine. I have used this one twice, yesterday, and for a day about a year ago. It worked pretty well, although I thought the BH controls were not that great after also using a Bobcat B200. The rest of the L35, power, diging, ect seemed great.

The shuttle shift was ok. I do like the HST on my B8200 better. Can you get an L35 or equivilant with HST?

L48 or if you do not need the LTB features look at a L3830. Check out _RaT_'s post. He switched from a L48 to L3830.
L**30's can remove FEL.
Running a 5' rotary mower should be no problem.
Putting TnT on a L35 should not be a problem. It will need to have QD's to allow removal when BH is installed.

That's how I got started in this tractor stuff. I rented a L2900 a few times and then jumped to a L35 and finally said "maybe I should buy one" six years later I have no regrets.

You are right about L35 being versatile. I use mine for everything.

As far as removing the BH and and switching to 3-pt attachments, I find it fairly easy to do. For me it takes about 15-20 mins. The only thing I don't like about the whole process is attaching the 3-pt arms to the tractor and then aligning them to one of my implements (they make 3-pt. quick attach hookups for this which I don't have). Loading the BH back on is really easy (10 min. tops)

I would not expect a 5' brush hog to be any problems but I have not ever used my PTO so I can't tell you for sure.

I don't mean to be dumb here but what does "TnT" short for?

Because the BH runs on a single hydro pump digging with it takes some getting use to. Over the years I have dug a lot with mine (I love digging /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) and you kind of get use to it.

Overall, there's not much this tractor and a little skill can't do. The improvements to the L35 this year with the new L39 seem to be more related to a slight power increase and styling. Not sure if I can justify the cost of a new one ($37k +) when mine does everything I want it too.

Don't forget to let me know about that "TnT" thing.

TnT= Top and Tilt. ot Tip and Tilt, ie tilting a scraper box so one side is lower for example.

I have a smaller B8200HST; got it about 7 years ago. It is the forerunner to the current B2710/2910. It is a mid 80's unit.

The one I used has 1400hrs on it. It is really clean for a rental. They might be upgradeding, and indicated a very reasonable price for this one.

If I were to ever think about something like that, I would need to be able to mow and scrape too.

The biggest thing of note, is I really like my HST, which this does not have. The GST worked pretty nice though...

Thanks for the education. If that was an automatic feature and you could controlled TnT from the seat, I would definitely see an advantage to that! Unfortunately, TnT has to be done manually on the L35. Kind of a pain to adjust for using my back blade but not so much for my box scraper (once it is set it usually doesn't need it again).

I do think keeping your L35 is a good decision, but the changes to the L39 are certainly more impressive than a slight power increase and syling. As stated earlier, it is pretty close to a totally redesigned machine. To review:

-Dual hydraulic pumps for the hoe. Completely redesigned hoe with substantial performance increase.
-Total hydraulic flow is now 23.5 GPM from three seperate pumps.

Info from a previous post (Sky):
-Displacement is up from 100cubic inches to 111 and correspondingly horsepower is up from 35 to 39.
-The GST tranny has gone from 8 forward speeds and 8 reverse to 12 forward speeds and 8 reverse.
-The fuel tank has been increased from 9.2 gallons to 10.6.
-The wheelbase has been increased from 66.9 to 68.9 inches and the rear track has been increased from 47.2 to 51.8 inches.
-The movable seat area for the BH has a walk thru area now as well as the instrument panel mounted adjacent to the seat.
-The FEL, BH, hydraulic pump, and TPH are all entirely new and upgraded for approx 20% more hydraulic power, plus the FEL is not externally reinforced to the frame like it used to on the L-35.
-The working weight of he TBL has increased from 6,000 to 7,000 pounds.
-It's basically an entirely new tractor. And to quote Sky "About the only thing that has not been changed is the color".

A completely different machine for sure. L35s are still excellent machines though and are proven workhorses. That's all my local rental place will purchase for customer use, and that's saying something considering the abuse /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
