Hello -

Before I get to my question let me introduce my self. I am in the market for a small TLB as a replacement for my Bobcat 753 skid steer. I plan on using it for farm maintenance on 2 small farms that my family owns. The Bobcat does very well except when you need to dig a ditch or clean out a creek, etc.

I visited one of the local Kubota dealers with intentions of looking at a B21 but wound up looking at a used L35 with ~2100 hrs on it. The L35 is a little bigger than what I had been looking at (B21, JD 4410), but the L35 started well and the FEL and BH were tight but I'm a little confused on the operation of the GST transmission. How will this transmission work compared to a HST for FEL work? My main concern is wearing the clutch out when picking up hay bales, etc.

Also is $19,000 a fair price for the L35? General condition was very good, tires had ~ 50% tread left.

Thanks for any help

Andy

$19,000.00 sounds high. The GST will work fine for you once you get used to it. Check out my thread 5030 VS L48 in the Kubota buying forum. Lot's of info on HST VS GST.

Thanks for the responses.

I have gotten spolied with the hydrostatic drive on the Bobcat, and I'm not sure I would be happy with the GST.

The dealer with the L35 is interested in trading for my Bobcat so I'll see how far apart we wind up on the price.

I just traded my 1998 L-35 TLB with 1,000hrs, front hydraulics, 4 in 1 bucket and extra 30" backhoe bucket in on my new L-39. Dealer gave me $19,500 for it and re-sold it for ~$22,000, so depending on how many hours, year & condition, $19,000 is pretty reasonable in my area.

On edit: The dealer had to install 2 new front tires and change all the fluids & filters on the L-35, so I'd guess that cost them at least $500 in parts & labor.

The clutch is a fluid clutch and will out wear several dry clutches. You shouldn't have to ever worry about wearing it out.
