L35 key wont turn off engine

The same thing happened on the L4200 my neighbor has. When you turn the key to the off position and the engine stops, in a few seconds you will hear a faint "click" on the right side of the engine. That is the solenoid releasing. I cleaned off all the connections and it works again. If it doesn't work after cleaning the connections you can unplug the solenoid and power it with a jumper from the battery to see if it works. If it doesn't, your solenoid is bad. If it works when jumped, check the timer and all other connections.

L35 with 1403 hours on it just started this symptom. Headed out now to look at the fuses! Wish me luck!

Probably an electrical problem. But when mine did it the little hairpin clip came off at the governor and let the cable from the solenoid disconnect. That was an easy fix.

Cleaned all the fuses .....not knowing which one might be the correct one.....but that did not help. Then looked at all the fuses to see if any were blown......lower 15 amp was blown. I then replaced said 15 amp fuse and the tractor now shuts down! Thanks for the info!

Wow....I happened again and I forgot that it had happened before.....then I found this post looking for a cure. This time, I noticed that the brake light did not work while I was parked and running,,,,,,then when I wanted to shut it down, it would not shut down with the key but did with the manual bypass.....now it won't start. I am headed out to look at the fuses again.

Some manual bypasses stick and have to be returned manually.

Well, I got into it. The fuses on the fuse panel had no power. I found a 40 Amp fuse at the starter that was blown.....Replaced it with all I had (30 Amp) and the lights came back but as soon as I hit the starter it popped that one too. I pulled the starter and it blew another 30 Amp fuse testing it. I smell burnt magic smoke at the solenoid and suspect it is a bad starter. I can't complain after 25 years of use but I didn't feel the need to buy a starter. No rebuild places around here so I suppose I will be looking for one.
