L355ss
I have an older L355ss that will not lift the three point with out aggressive throttle once at operating temp, sometimes it barely moves. When cold it lifts with minimal throttle.

Thoughts? Worn piston/seals?

Could be the piston o-ring - but a big warm/cold difference in performance may point to pump wear -especially if revving it up makes it work better. When you notice the weakness what's on the 3-pt, something light weight or a heavy? When its lifted up and then the engine shut off, does the hitch bleed down quickly or hold the raised position?

Let’s hope it’s not pump related. The hydro shuttle is strong cold or warm. When I into the lifting issues the box blade could be full or empty with the same result. When the tractor is shut off the 3 point will gradually bleed down over a 24hr period

I will state that when cold at idle the 3 point will not lift without some throttle applied, however works significantly better than when the tractor has been at operational temp for a while.

I am suspicious of the oil thinning once warm and seeping by the piston o rings… only one way to find out I suppose.

Slow bleed-down is "normal" and not a sign of damage, actually it shows decent performance of the o-ring in the 3-pt cylinder.

This tractor has a "priority valve" that gives the hydraulic shuttle 1st dibs on the hydraulic pump's output. Maybe its involved in your issue? Others have had probs with this valve - hope someone chimes in.

No "chimers" yet - I did find a couple pages in my L355ss WSM showing the priority valve - (but no info on troubleshooting or adjustment).

It's purpose is to send pressurized oil to the shuttle clutch pack (which it's apparently doing), and send any extra oil out to other uses. Hopefully its just crapped up and the overflow is being blocked?

To get more clues, I'd try taking out the plunger and spring and running without dividing the flow. Worst thing might be tractor won't drive while using other functions. Don't run a lot like this - slipping shuttle clutches are a no-no.

BTW, power steering is NOT involved - it has its own pump (behind the main pump) and reservoir.

Good luck, Dick B

This is definitely something I need to investigate. A few weeks back in a whim I decided to pull the pressure relief valve apart and to my surprise the seat and “needle” looked to be in decent shape… I was hoping for an easy fix! I hadn’t looked into the opposite side though. Great task for this weekend.
