Kubota MX5400
One of my local dealers has one on the lot with around 450 hrs. I have not seen it yet but he says it is in good condition. For those of you who own one, what do you like and dislike about them? What, if any, problem areas should I look for in checking this machine out? Thanks!

I absolutely love mine. Bear in mind that this is a good sized tractor. I've had mine for 5 years and have about 500 hours on it. Lots of loader work as well as brush hogging, tilling, snow blowing and grading. Other than normal maintenance I've only replaced a $30 air filter sensor and 2 tubes in the rear tires. I still have the original battery, (I keep the tractor in a heated garage).

Mine's HST, it's so easy to drive my wife and kids can handle it.

The only downside I can think of - it's too big to mow around the house, I have a riding mower for that chore.

At the time I purchased this was the largest Kubota that had a mid mount PTO, (useful for a belly mower and a front mounted blower). Due to the high price of the front mount, I went with a much larger rear mounted blower.

What's the price? Is it an HST? Does it have a FEL?

Kubota makes a really nice cab for this tractor, (if you have very deep pockets).

Check it out and report back. At 450 hours it's barely broken it.

I'll take a stab at this... maybe someone else will have more to add.

Things to look for: What year is it? Obvious signs of heavy wear 'n tear. Signs of rust? Fluids topped up and clean? Sediment in fuel filter? Tire condition. Does it start and run smoothly, both cold and hot? Play in steering? Play in front axle (particularly if it has a loader)? Gear noise? 3pt raises and lowers properly? PTO working? Is it gear, GST or HST? If it's gear, how is clutch? Brakes OK? Any signs of heavy mechanical repair (such as bolts and nuts that have been opened)? How did dealer come to have it (was it a trade or what)?

Like: Good power, stability, very reliable, nice mix of comfort vs. performance, sips fuel, easy to operate.
Dislike: Not much. No cup holder. Lacks skid plate protection for rough brush.

I have 4610, not 3710, but they are much the same except different engines and front axle.

They are asking $11,500. It does not, and has not had a FEL. THe price is with a bushog which I do not need, so I will negotiate my price starting around $11,200 since I have no need for the bushhog. If I buy it, it will be sight unseen except for pictures as the tractor is some distance from my house. I trust my buddy at the dealership to evaluate it within reason. They are selling it for a friend of the owners who used the tractor for light bushogging in pastures and to pull a manure spreader. Thanks for the help!!

I'm not a used-tractor price guru, but that sounds pretty reasonable to me for a lightly used unit with no FEL. You would most likely get plenty of value out of it at that price, assuming your trust in the dealer is well placed and there is nothing basically wrong with the tractor. These are really dependable workhorses built to last for a lifetime. You are definitely getting a bargain vs. buying a new L30 model!

Where are you LabLuvR? I'm in Upstate SC and coincidentally, the 3710 I just bought was "on consignment" from a "freind" of the dealer. Actually a family that had made multiple purchases/trades with them. The hubby was killed unfortunately, tractor too much for momma. Only 196 hrs, my gain. Got it in Hendersonville. Keep in touch and good luck.

Jayeks,

I am in the Newberry area. The one I am looking at is located near Sumter, it sat outside and is slightlly faded but apparently that is all that is wrong with it. I will trade a little fade for a few thousand dollars on buying a new one anyday! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Mine should be here tomorrow. i've targeted a bunch ofl old stumps from the Dec. '02 ice storm for practice. I had about 60 trees downed that I manhandled to clear. (God, what was I thinking?). Now I get my REVENGE!!! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif This machine has a stiff clutch, it's geared, but I'm in no hurry. I'll let you know how it works out. I'm hoping to run across a deal on a set of forks to aid in moving brush and logs.
