Did my first oil change yesterday and was a bit taken back afterwards. I drained all the oil from both drain plugs on the bottom of the pan, removed oil filter, and let it all drain until empty. Put back in the drain plugs, new oil filter, and put in 7.5 quarts per the owners manual for oil & filter change. Ran it for a few minutes and then let it sit for 1/2 hour and when I checked the fluid level several times it is not in between the two dots on the dipstick but above the top dot an inch or two.

So I am bit worried if there is too much oil which I am guessing could cause damage to the engine.

Double check the capacity and make sure you did not read the coolant capacity instead. It is usually listed just below and easy to mistake. I know the older version of your tractor (L3400) only holds 6 quarts. The nice thing is that with the dipstick in and the oil cap on you can pull one of the drain plugs and remove some oil. It should drain fairly slowly that way.

Rule of thumb is to never dump the entire amount into your engine on your first oil change. I always put in about a quart less and run it and check it. I have done the same for everything I own. Once in while, you get a little surprise.

I spoke with the Kubota Dealer and he said to put in 7 quarts even though the manual say 7.5 quarts, so I just removed 1/2 quart, ran the tractor for 5 minutes and will check it later to see the level.

Also this is the 2nd oil change, I bought the tractor from the dealer with 40 hours on it, they did the 50 hour service before I took it home.

Run the engine at a high RPM then shut down and immediately check the dip stick... You are Not looking for the oil level... but instead check if there is any sign of foaming or frothing of the oil... if it is Well over filled the crank shaft will contact the oil and it will whip air into it. I doubt that a quart over full will bring the oil level up enough to cause any problem.
Best method for oil change... measure the oil level Before draining, then Replace with the same amount you removed... plus a bit more for the filter...

Certainly too much oil. Done a few and will not get more than 7 in if I recall. Usually around 6.7 or so.

You see what happens is you never get all of the old oil out.. the listed capacity is for a completely dry new engine. Yes it takes 7.5 quarts, but you did not drain 7.5 quarts out. Some oil always stays in the passages, you cannot ever get it all out. Same for the front axle etc.
