I might add that I run a number of road miles too. The hayfields are not contiguous to our property. I have to run on the road about 5 miles to make a field round. That is at 15 mph. Because the front case is always turning in locked or unlocked, I know in my mind, the ep is handling the shear on the pinion and ring gear as well as the outer helical gearing.

I must plead guilty to never checking my anti freeze in any of my vehicles. I should check it on my truck as it always seems just after I put in a whole new batch of the stuff in my truck, I loose the stinkin radiator at a seam. It's happened to me twice now. The idea of a electric fan is interesting. I did it on an old truck I had and the noise difference was an improvement. My 89 Ford 7.3 had the clutch locked up on the fan when I bought it. I would go down the freeway at full engine RPM (C6 with 4.10's) which is about 3100 RPM and the truck was screaming loud. The new fan clutch eliminated half the noise and a Gear Vendors overdrive knocked the RPM down about 800 RPM's.

Not sure who makes it but I think it is called a cyclone fan. Some on was using it on there Ford diesel truck over on www.thedieselstop.com It's actually some type of electric clutch with temp sensor that ingages/disengages the fan running off the water pump. The neat thing about it was that is also monitored tranny temp as well as water temp to determine when to turn on and off.
