L39 Steering Controller Leak

My L39 has a small hydro. leak at the very top of the Steering Controller Box where the steering wheel U-Joint shaft goes into the box. The leak is coming from under the spring clip. Has anyone had a similar problem and is it a simple fix? I was hoping that I could remove the u-joint assembly and take the spring clip out and hopefully see an O-Ring that might be worn. The leak isn't really bad - yet!

I didn't want to remove the Steering Controller Box and all the hoses if there is a simple - easy - way to get to it.

I will really appreciate any advice.

I wish I could give you advice, my manuals are in CT and I am in NH until Thursday. I can look and see if there is a diagram them if you want.

I am curious how many hrs you have on it.

I have 868 hrs and I got it used a year ago. I absolutely love this backhoe. The leak or "seep" just started about a month ago and I just stuffed a rag around it until I can determine what to do. I check the fluid every weekend and still haven't added a drop. Not a single thing else wrong. Works hard every weekend rebuilding a creek bank.

I checked the manual I have and I could not find an exploded diagram of the power steering controller.

Sorry I could not be more help. I did find this thread with someone else that has replaced the seals.

What I may do is remove the steering universal joint and the circle snap ring on top of the controller and see if I can determine where the fluid is coming from. I'm not going to start removing valves inside the controller housing. If it comes to it, I could remove the whole controller and take it to the dealer and let them rebuild it.
