I was mowing a couple of days ago and the engine died on me in the middle of my mowing. Couldn’t get it to restart and could smell the strong odor of diesel. Got out of the cab and noticed fuel dripping out underneath. Popped the hood and found a fuel line had come disconnected from what I assume is the fuel filter.

Put the connector back into the filter and went on my way. Same thing happened again today.

Is there some sort of clip that should be holding it in place? Seems awfully loose when I put it back in.

Here is a pic of the hose and connector.

You need a hose clamp on the connection. A spring clip probably was on it (or not and should have been), but a regular adjustable hose clamp should work fine if you dont have a spring clip to fit. Just about everyone /everywhere sells those.

One other thing, before you go buy a clamp, look under that flexible hose protection and see if your clamp is shoved back under the plastic sleeve.

Don’t have a good angle from the pic but looks like maybe the filter housing is missing a mounting bolt on the engine side? Is the filter bracket loose?
I would replace the clamp with either a constant tension spring or worm gear hose clamp.

I should clarify the problem - the hose clamp is secure. It’s not the hose that’s coming loose, but the plastic “L” that connects to both the hose and to the filter housing. That “L” is popping out of the housing.

Any idea what is supposed to keep that connector in place? Is it missing a rubber gasket or something?

It looks like there is only one bolt, but interestingly, the parts diagram only shows a single bolt connecting the housing to the mount.

And it’s the whole plastic “L” connector is coming out of the housing. Not the hose, even though I can’t see a clamp either.

Will look a little closer later this morning.

Replace the whole unit with hose and clamp, don't hazard a nasty leak.

If you insist on keeping your hose, cut it back at least 1/2 inch, maybe 3/4" then replace the clamp.

There is only 1 bolt, the other is a locating tab.

When you pull it apart all of the fuel will come out of the tank. clamp the hose first or drain the tank, to reprime it make sure you have fuel running back over the top into the lift pump by the injection pump, otherwise it will run 3 minutes and quit. Once they quit it's hard to restart them without getting fuel into the injection pump.

That L is a press fit into the housing. Take it back out put some deep marks in it and use some loc-tight when you put it back in.

Misunderstood how the supply line was coming off. Agree with replacing the whole filter assembly would be the best fix. Trying to repair the elbow after coming out several times would be risky at best. Good clarification how one bolt holds on the filter assembly. Good luck on your repairs.
