I've got a 09 L3940 HST. My cruise has recently stopped working which I use on a daily basis and also the tractor will not move with the HST pedal until 2500 RPM's are established and it lunges forward when it does engage causing it to be very jumpy and there is no finessing it. In reverse, the tractor moves like it should just off idle with the HST pedal. Does anyone have any input on these 2 issues? Thank you.

Hi - and welcome to TBN. My guess is the two issues are connected. For what you describe the first place to look is the linkage between the pedal and the HST - it has several rods and pivot points. Any damage or stiffness will affect shifting and cruise performance. Forward and reverse use the same major internal components so, if reverse is ok, the issue is likely external. You won't find much info on the net about troubleshooting the L-series HST itself. Many dealers just replace it whole, leaving a hole in your checkbook. There's some related reading here. Keep us posted how this goes. Take care, Dick B

Thank you Dick, for the welcome. I've read your thread and learned a few things from it. When I get home tmrw from work, I'll check a few of the tgings you mentioned. Thank you.

Maybe stuck brake?

Lets start with a baseline....

Have you owned it from day 1? How many hours? What do u use it for mostly? What are u doing to use cruise daily?

Does your model have the hst+ with auto rabbit/turtle?

Did it happen all of a sudden? What were you doing? Gradual?

When was last time filters and fluid were changed, hst, hydraulic, fuel, air?

I'm pretty sure there are not any rods coming from the HST pedal on a L40. It is all electronically controlled. Are there any error codes coming up on the intelli panel?

I bought the tractor used from a older gentleman from TX in 2013. It had 700 hours and was in excellent shape. Me not knowing the maintence history, I changed every fluid and filter on the machine. It currently has 1100 hours. It has the L-M-H and rabbit-turtle function as well along with cruise lever by the L-M-H shifter. I do a lot with the front end loader as well as lots of bush hogging. I live on 25 acres and am currently building a house so I use my pallet forks a lot to move stuff. I only use cruise when bush hogging open fields or going down long roads.
Here's where it gets interesting.... My younger cousin asked to borrow it and said he had a few things to do and that was no problem. He calls an hour later and asks where to get parts from. I ask why, he says a stick lodged up and broke a sensor under the HST pedal. It's the very top sensor closest to the floorboard behind the cover plate. He orders it, $100 bucks later he puts the new one on. I go to get on it, I notice it just wasn't the same. Me being more mechanically inclined, I remove the cover plate and look at the sensor for myself. I remove it, which I notice it was spring loaded in a sense. To reinstall it, the connector part of the sensor has to be installed at 12 o'clock and rotated back to 9 o'clock and then the screws hold it in place there. Nobody has a manual in stock locally and I refuse to bring it in to the dealer. It's probably something fairly simple but without a manual, I'm not sure of what adjustments there are and where the cruise control ties in to it since it's all electronic.
The brakes don't seem to be stuck btw. I've read on here about the brake switch out of adjustment, but that appears fine as well.
Neither do I have any codes on my dash.
Thanks for all inquiries!

Okay, now we're narrowing it down....

My guess is it has to do with this doohickey.

1st I'd check to make sure the right part number is in there.

2nd lets see if anyone posts up with a shop manual (may want to start a new thread asking specifically). There must be some adjustment or install procedure.

#160 is the part. I'll try to dig deeper on the manual question in another thread. Thanks.

Thats the one on the trans, there is another under the foot control. Could be the same part #. Make sure he didn't brake a wire.
