I am getting ready to do my 50 hour service on my l4400. My owners manual says that I should have 4 drain plugs for the hydrostatic fluid, I only see 2. Also is there any special tool required to take off the fuel filter? Whats the best way to get the fluid in the tractor does not look easy. Any other help please...Thanks

I HAVE A L2800 THE FUEL FILTER WAS EASY JUST UNSCREWED WATCH THE 2 RUBBER O RINGS. THEN USED A SCREW DRIVER TO GET THE FILTER OUT OF THE BOWL. REPLACED FUEL FILTER BACK IN BOWL AND PUT RUBBER O RINGS BACK ON. THEN FILLED BOWL AND FILTER UP WITH FUEL. THEN FOLLWED THE BLEEDING SYSTEM IN THE BOOK, OPEN THE BLEED SCREW AND START FOR 30 SECS SHUT OFF AND CLOSE SCREW.

DRAINING FLUID THERE IS A BOLT ON THE BOTTOM OF THE 2 REAR AXLES THE OTHER 2 ARE FAIRLY BIG BOLTS JUST IN FRONT OF THE REAR TIRE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TRACTOR. I THINK ITS A 15/16 BOLT OR 1 INCH. SHOULD CLEAN THE AIR FILTER.

There are 4 drain plugs under the tractor. Shouldn't be hard to find, I think the picture in the manual shows them.

No special tool needed to remove fuel filter, I think you can get it off by hand but I don't remember.

The fill hole for the hydraulic fluid is in an awkward position. You can buy cheap hand operated liquid pumps at TSC or Northern Tool, but I just used a funnel with a hose on it. Have someone hold the funnel for you.

Catching the draining fluid cn be a problem. Typical waste oil pans for cars won't do, they are too small. Five gallon bucket will not fit under tractor. I used a galvanized wash tub and then dipped the used fluid out with a coffee can and put it into the buckets that the new fluid came in.

Make sure you have the proper sized filter wrenches for removing the oil and hydraulic fluid filter.

This is my notes from the 50 hour change on my L2800

Front end requires UDT, super UDT, or 80W90 gear oil. The dealer recommended Kubota 80W90 oil so that’s what I used. There are 3 @ 14MM plugs and one @ 1-1/16" plug.
Draining fluid was a very slow process, Recommend starting the drain Process evening before. Use a piece of cardboard to keep oil of tires and going into catch pan. Drain both sides at the same time.
Be equally patient putting the new gear oil in. (dealer said put 2-3 quarts in then wait one hour to let the oil work it's way down into the bearings, then complete the fill.

Engine Kubota recommends 10W-30 oil (6 Qts.), the dealer said they always use 15W-40, I went with 10W-30 (Mystik synthetic blend) The 2 oil drains are both 19 MM. Easy change for both oil and filter. No need for funnels. (use the oil fill in the area right above the filter not the one on the valve cover) I only got 5 qts in and it's full.

Transmission requires UDT or super UDT and has two filters (I used Super UDT). There are 4 drain plugs 2 @ 14MM, 2 @ 25MM. I recommend changing filters first. The HST filter can be tough one, but I had no problems with it. You get about 4-5 gallons of fluid when you loosen the hydraulic filter, but if you don't take the filter all the way off you can hand tighten it back and change container if needed.
I used a funnel to get the 5 gallon bucket into the tractor.(My funnel was short so I removed the orange bracket that holds the slow moving vehicle sign for better access, 4 screws).

I also checked the starter safety locks, clutch and brake adjustments, but no adjustments was needed.

Fuel filter does not get changed untill 100 hours according to my schedule.

Thanks everyone for the help, I got all the required maintance done today. What a good feeling! Checking the oil fill on the dipstick it's hard to tell when full or to full. Thanks to everyones help it went good. The dealer sold me power tech hydro fluid has anyone heard of this? It says made for kubota.
