Just bought a new L4400 to replace a 1980 JD2040. I live in NH and always needed to use the block heater on the JD. I've been reading some of these threads and see that most guys in New England don't worry too much about cold starting, but without that block heater, I would've been in a world of hurt.
I see that there are two types of heater for the L4400. I'd probably go for the actual screw in block heater.
Does anyone know how much they cost? Owner installation?
Comments are welcome.

I bought my L4400 in Plainfield 3 years ago. The dealer put in one of those freeze plug block heaters, but said I'd never need it. He says he puts it in because it saves arguing with customers. My tractor is stored outside in an unheated shed. It always starts immediately with no hesitation of any kind. Just turn the key to the glow plug side for maybe 5 (no exaduration) seconds and turn it the other way and it starts. Any temperature. Northeast Kingdom of Vermont.

Thanks very much. I just called the dealer and he told me they're $69 and it takes about an hour and a half to install it. Based on what you just told me, I'm going to try going without it and see how it goes.
Thanks again.

My new 4400 came with a heater installed, standard. I thought they all did. Riverside Tractor, Montpelier.
