I'm considering the purchase of a new L4701 to keep up 30 acres of hilly meadows and woods. Should I consider stepping up to the Grand L series 4760? what would I be missing? The work will probably involve a 6' rotary mower, loader/grapple, finish mower, box blade (pasture leveling).

Yeah I know about the emissions stuff, but L4600s, and L4740s are pretty scarce, and I'd like to have the dealer relationship and warranty.

Imagine purchasing an economical 3/4 ton pick up truck. Then purchase a top of the line 3/4 ton pick up truck. Both do the job, typically the nicer-deluxe unit has a bit higher over all capacity and you are in by far more comfort doing that work as well has having more features to do that work with. ;)

That is part of it. The grands are also a lot heavier. More strength from the extra metal, not to mention the extra weight. I think the grands have a higher loader & 3pt lift rating than the comparable economy model.

Fancier transmissions, fancier electronics, optional cabs. Generally a lot of extra bells & whistles, but also a fair bit of extra steel.

Generally the same HP & I would assume same engines though.

If money is not an issue, I'd jump to a Grand L for sure -- it adds a lot of niceties and usability features, and is heavier. Otherwise, a basic L model is perfectly competent.

Our son wanted another Grand L just larger than the L3940. After looking and test driving an L4760 and a L6060 and then reading up on DPF's he and his Mom decided a DPF tractor wasn't for them. So I told them I might could find an MX5100, which is EGR only, it took me a while but there's still some out there. It doesn't have the bells and whistles that they've come to enjoy on the L3940 but seems quite solidly built, has a wider stance especially with the front axle and it's a Cat. 2 3 point like the L5460 and the L6060. Not trying to sway you away from the two listed but just throwing another option out there. The MX5100 was about $10K less than the L60 of about the same HP. Biggest compliant so far is the seat.
