Is the L48 mid-range really too low for mowing? I know several TBN'ers have indicated that in the past, but wanted to get some more comments on it.

No problem, I mow with both of mine, using a 5' and a 6' (my 7' is too big) bush hog and medium is perfect ground speed. Be sure to clean the radiator screen as you will see a temp spike if you don't. Be aware, just spent $415 for a new radiator for 1 of my L48s as a stick came thru the bottom and busted the hose of the bottom of the rad., bummer!! The L48 has the BEST armored front end, but not in reverse mowing in heavy stuff. Also, cover your remote caps as stuff will foul them in the first job. Had a bad battery cable and when starting the extra juice heated up the positive cable to the point where it made the seed accumulated in the nose heat up and SMOKE!!! Good luck.

Thanks for the information. My local dealer has a new one and I'm going to talk to him about making a deal on it. Was looking at M59s, but since he has this L48, I would save around 10 grand by getting it and buying more implements.

I say the L48 is way to slow in medium for mowing. I had a 84" and gave up using the L48 for mowing. Frankly, I replaced the L48 with a L3830 HST that ran circles around the L48 when it came to mowing. The L3830 could actually mow in H range. The L48 has a hard time getting out of its shadow in H range. The L48 is a dedicated earth mover.

RaT,

Thanks for your input. I will only have about have about two acres to mow around the perimeter of the property (10 foot wide strip x 9,000 feet) to keep the fences cleaned up. The rest is baled once a year.

Really just want it to keep ditches cleaned on the county road in front of our place, landscaping around the house, cleaning out an old pond and maintaining our driveway and just piddling around the property.

Dealer also has a new L5740 and bradco 511 that he would deal with me on, too. It was set up for another customer who lost his job and couldn't go through with the purchase.
