Guys,
I removed the backhoe from my L48 and I want to hook up a disc. I'm confused on the hydraulics as I am used to farm tractors and this tractor is a little different. It only has a lever for the 3 point to go up and down. There is another lever back by the couplers for the backhoe and it just turns the hydraulics on and off for the backhoe.

Am I going to be able to run implement hydraulics off the back of this tractor other than the 3 point? If so, how does it work. The manual is worthless in answering this question.

Thanks,
Kevin

You will have to add remote valves if you want to add hydraulic cylinder functions to the rear. You will probably have to get kit (s) from the tractor mfg. Be sitting down when you get the price

There should be a decal on the rear lip of the cover for the three point that tells you which position to move the lever with the backhoe removed.

The ports that the backhoe plug into are either ON or OFF depending on the position of that lever (most tractors do NOT have a lever to turn it OFF, so a "loop hose" is plugged in to keep the flow of hydraulic oil continuous).

So, just like your backhoe has it's own valve block...you must add a valve set into those QD's and turn that lever back on to use a implement with hydraulics. You could make a quick-attach bracket or even permanently mount the valve to the fender or ROPS and get hoses that plug into the couplers that the backhoe does. You could even set it up so the new valve is in series with the hoe so it you would have it available for other things while the hoe was on (like a hydraulic thumb, or a grapple on the loader.

Estimated cost would be about $300 for a valve, hoses and QD's-you will have to fab up the mount yourself or have it done locally.

Clear as mud?:D

I think he understands that, he wants to know how to use the lines to operate other 3PH mounted implements with hydraulics on them.

I was afraid you guys were going to say that. Ugh, I did not want to have to go through that hassle. Anybody have any recommendations of where to get the controls? I don't even want to ask my Kubota dealer. I was there the other day and asked them how much a toolbox was for my tractor. They quoted something like $110. I just about fell over.

If anyone has pictures of a similar setup, that would be great!

Thanks,
Kevin

Kevin,
Do you happen to know what the rated GPM of your machine is? With that I can accurately recommend a valve.

But, if you want to have a look, then check out the Surplus Center , you want a 4-way, open center valve with probably two spools.

By them time you buy the valve, hoses, fittings and QD's you will be in the $400 to $500 range.

Kenny,
The L48 has a 25.9 gallons per minute flow rate. The tractor has two QD's on the right side and one on the left. I'm not sure what the flow rate is with the two on the right, which is the two I would want to use.

As I said earlier, I am far from a hydraulics expert. On the farm tractors we always had, they just had the standard Pioneer type and we never seemed to have a problem matching anything up. This Kubota is a different animal and the Pioneer types on my neighbors disc would not fit either of my Kubota's QD's. One was too small and one was too large. How do I tell what I have so that I can order the right parts?

Thanks,
Kevin

OK, the 25.p GPM number must be a total output, there is no way you have that going to just the backhoe!

A valve like THIS would work real well for you-just gotta get it mounted. as far as QD's, it might be best just to order those 2 from Kubota, and then use the standard Pioneer AG type fitting you are used to on the work ports.

First order is to get a valve, then get it mounted so you can see what length hoses you'll need.

I stopped at the Kubota dealership today. Boy, if they are not a pain in the rear. They had no clue what the hookups would be and their explanation is that Kubota used several different manufacturers over the years to supply those QD's. Their best advice was to load up the tractor and take it over to the Tompkins store. LOL Yea, I'm going to haul my tractor 100 miles round trip to get a hose made. They are nuts.

Also, the Kubota solution with a 3 way valve and all the fittings is over $1300! No big surprise there.

So, I finally got home and wiped the grease off the QD fittings on the backhoe and found a number. Looks like one is a Parker fitting, H4-63 and the other one was a different brand, of which I did not recognize but it is the same type of fitting only in a 3/8. I'm just going to order them along with the valve recommendation from kennyd and I'll be in business.

Thanks for the help!
Kevin
