There's a very slight build-up of hydraulic fluid on the bottom of the transmission where the cases meet on my L48. Obviously, fixing the job the right way (splitting the cases) is going to be a major fiasco. I would like to try to add some external sealant to the joint next time I change the hydraulic fluid. I have good access and will be able to clean the area well. Has anyone had success with a particular sealant on this type of repair? There are so many RTVs and sealants to choose from, I'd like to pick the one with best chance of working (although I am skeptical anything will work).

Thanks,
Mike

I think it depends on what you mean by slight. One drip a day? If it is truly slight, I would not bother doing anything. Applying a sealant on the outside of a leak rarely last very long in my experiences.

Splitting a L48 is not like splitting a farm tractor either. Ever looked at what you would have to do? Take apart chassis, engine, transmission, frame, hyd., and more. BIG job. I wonder of the L48 power train can be unbolted and lifted out whole? It does sit in a pillow box frame and that may be the easiest way out. Take the whole power train out attached (engine+trans.) and then split.

Just clean it with some lacquer thinner and try the silicone ( cheap enough fix ) but JB-Weld might hold up better
