Loader LA 854 Loader Bucket Cylinder Fitting Size?

Hi guys,

My bucket slowly droops, so something is leaking. I disconnected the hydraulic quick-connects to the bucket cylinders and the droop still happens, so the leak is evidently in the cylinder piston seals and not in the control valve. There is no external leakage. So on the assumption that only ONE of the cylinders is leaking, I plan to plug/cap the lines to one of them at a time to determine which one.

Does anybody happen to know what size/thread the bucket cylinder hydraulic fittings on a LA854 are? They look like about 1/2" IP, but I assume they are metric.

No the LA loaders are not metric, I would bet the threads are 1/2" npt.

Be careful. To do what your talking about you need to raise your fel and then remove the hydraulic line. Make sure you have the fel well supported by something that can hold the weight.

If it was me I would not mess with the fittings in the cylinder. I would raise the fel about a foot or so them place a floor jack under the bucket. I would disconnect the rubber hose coming out of the cylinder where it connect to the steel line. It's a 90 degree JIC fitting, either 3/8 or 1/4. Being up only a foot should keep from loosing too much oil and the JIC fittings are easy to remove by hand once you break them free. They sell caps and plus for JIC fittings, I think discount hydraulic hose has them for well under $1 each. Plus they are a nice thing to have in several different sizes just in case you burst a hydraulic hose and have to remove it to get a replacement.
