LA 105 42" deck. Right hand spindle & belt rubbed through the plastic cap. Replaced cap, same result. Anyone else run into this issue? What may be the cause?

Is you belt oscillating side-to-side a lot or does it rub all the time because the shield is too close to the spindle? If it is rubbing through the top, you can put some washers under the shield on top of the deck where the bolts go through to raise the shield up some. If the belt is flopping around, make sure the tension pulley is not binding. The tension arm with the spring needs to be lubed well and free to swing to keep the belt tight. If the belt doesn't have the proper tension, it will flop around.

...just some random thoughts.

The belt and pulley rubs on both sides of the cover. I replaced the belt earlier this spring and it is tensioned properly. Originally I thought I had torqued the cover down crooked causing the rub, but when the new one went on, I made sure it was square and plumb to the deck. Fired it up, and the pulley is rubbing the cover again! Arghhhh.

My LA135 (42" deck) does the same thing on both sides. This is my first year with it and I noticed it when I did the initial service. Belt tension was set properly according to the manual. I haven't talked to the dealer about it yet.
It appeared to be related to the belt being loose due to the way the mechanical PTO works.

This seems to be an engineer's better idea of belt retainers. They even went the extra step and molded a steel pin in the plastic in one location of one guard. Maybe more but one is all I've seen. You won't see the steel pin until the belt wears through the plastic.

I didn't have the pin in mine, and it rubbed all the way through the housing on the front side. Might as well not even have the guard on it!

I did take mine off for awhile but the belt would come off occasionally so I cut a couple of large arcs out of them with a coping saw to make cleaning easier and re-installed. They'll just have to rub cause I got better things to worry about.

mine does the same thing the right side came with guide holes in the plastic housing and the left side has steel rods in the plastic. i took mine off due to them being worn had no idea they were needed to hold the belt on
