I've been given a LA155 that the engine runs fine on, but it won't actually move forward or backwards anymore. The previous owner gave up because he was moving and it's up to me to fix it. One day I was able to pull the freewheeling lever (that thing on the back that you pull out to allow you to push the tractor around) in and out repeatedly about 30 times while someone else sat in the drivers seat with their foot on the "forward" pedal. Eventually the tractor started moving and continued to work until the driver tried to back up. I had to repeat the lever-pulling trick about 50 times to get it engaged and back to the garage. The next time I tried it, it wouldn't engage and still hasn't, no matter how many times I pull the lever.
So what are my options? I've owned and repaired other tractors and mowers but never dealt with a problem like this. Is it something like transmission or hydraulic fluid or is there something else that might be causing my issue?
