I have about 3/4-1 mile of dirt (road base) road to maintain. I have been using a box blade, but I am considering getting a land plane.

I would like to get a 6 ft to cover the tractor wheel base.

I am concerned that it might be too much for the tractor.

Anyone have any experience?

Still haven't tried mine yet, but I don't anticipate any problems pulling a 6 footer behind my CK27. We'll see!

Come out to SoCal and you can try it out. ;) It's only a 2 long days drive...

So Dave, if I come out to your place, how about we take that hoe off and get to work with the LPGS. You need to get dialed in with it so that you can go to work after all the rain we're going to get this winter. :cool2: Plus you will then realize that you also need one of these for sure. ;)

A 5 footer that is heavy, as in 150lbs or more per foot width, or a 6 footer that is a bit lighter. I think that most guys go with the 6 footer.

I'd love that. You and I had quite a time putting the hoe back on, so I'm trying to get my brother to come visit and help me make a dolly that will hold it properly.

I do need a good blade like that, but $$$. Sigh. Oh, and a grapple, too, of course.

It will all happen sooner if someone would JUST BUY OUR CONDO so I can retire out to the ranch! :cloud9:

Sales seem to be speeding up lately. There have been a few that I know of that went in less than a month of being on the market. Hopefully soon for you.

Be careful what you offer. I grew up in San Diego and go back there regularly for business. You might just get an early morning knock....

You can see the top & tilt Brian put together for my CK27, too.

I am not known for being an early riser, though.

I use a 6' behind my L3700SU. It has no problem at all. Remember, a land leveler does not really collect gravel like a box does. Which would weigh it down, it allows it to flow over the back and feather it out. I would guess that they may only have 200 pounds of material in them at the most as they are being dragged.

All depends on conditions and what you are trying to do. I can and have moved on a regular basis about 3 cubic yards of material at a time with my 7' LPGS. Big big difference between barely making a cut and having the material just flow over the cutting edges vs making a full cut and actually collecting the material. Now this does not apply to crushed rock as much as dirt or fine gravel. For me the ground has to have the right moisture content, but that is usually about right where it should be for grading a road anyway.

Can't find any pictures of the LPGS full of material, but you can see where dirt has been up and over the top cross bars and just that by itself just under 2 yards of material.

Just my experience, others will vary. ;)
