If your mower has one of those plastic cans attached for the operators manual, you might stick some spare shear pins in it, to keep them handy. With the tools you need in your toolbox on the tractor, assuming you have one, shear pin changes in the field will be much easier.

Both my New Hollands have a small tool compartment on the operator's platform. I keep two wrenches and a package of bolts in there along with a set of fence pliers, a spare set of gloves and a few red shop towels. If you run over an old piece of wire or break a shear pin it will keep you from having to go all the way back to the shop to change it.

Man you tool box must be bigger than the ones I have seen on tractors. Most would be lucky to get the two end wrenches and a couple of bolts in them.
My LS and Kubota didn't even have a tool box on them. I bought some plastic tool boxes from Walmart that are big enough to carry a large amount of stuff and mounted the one on the Kubota on the rear FOPS bracket. ON the LS I removed the right hand step which I rarely used anyway and used the bolt mounts to mount my tool box. It was just the right size to fit between the steps. It does gather a bit of mud from the front wheels, but being made of plastic, no rust problems.
The one on the Kubota, I found that it had cracked on the bottom, likely from brushing against a limb or something so I mounted another old one that I had bought a few years back. It is a lot larger and can carry my tools, a tow strap and several bottles of water.

According to the parts manual for your mower, the shear bolt is a 1/2-13x3 grade 2 bolt. You can download operator and parts manuals here: RCR12 Series Rotary Cutters | Land Pride

Bad idea to use anything harder than a grade 2 bolt. Grade 5 is too hard. The intent is for the bolt to "shear" before the machine is damaged. Grade 2 fasteners are 88 cents a pound at Tractor Supply. At $1.25 per bolt it sounds as if you've bought a grade 5 or 8. Too hard.

A shear pin will be a soft bolt (grade 5 if I remember correctly) that connects two parts of the pto shaft, while a slip clutch will look like two metal plates inline with the pto shaft near the gear box. I would bet good money it's one of these, and with your model I'm betting a shear pin. If you Google shear pin and go to Images, you'll find it.

Shear pins are grade 2 or 3. Replace with G5 if you're careful with the stumps. A G2 can be sheared by simply letting off the clutch too fast on a live PTO.

No worries. I use G5 myself because I got tired of replacing it if I slipped off the clutch just a little too fast after a long day hogging. I may pay for it later if I ever find a pipe stub or such.
