Is this a toy? Or would it be what I need for 5-7 acres of farm land, planting cover crops etc.

Land Pride Seed Bed Rollers

Thinking I'll drag it behind a drag harrow (also by landpride but only 4ft long(?).

Both attached to a rotary spreader.

Now I'm wondering if this is going to work with the spreader. Spreader says "net spreadable granular width 23' - 54'.... doesn't seem like that makes sense to use with a 6' wide seed bed roller and/or drag harrow of the same width.... does it?

I would think you will end up spreading with the broadcast spreader. Best to set the seed flow for 1/2 of what you want, and go over the ground 2x in different directions or splitting down the middle of your 1st passes. This allows the somewhat irregular spread pattern to even out better. (Those spreaders work well, but seeds of different sizes & weights fly different distances; and the spreaders often tend to fling a little farther one way than the other so double coverage gives you a better seeding.)

Then you could drag it if you have bigger seeds (oats, wheat, rye, ) or roll it if you have tiny seeds (alfalfa, turnip, clover, grass, etc.).

If you want a real smooth ground you can do both. It's probably not really needed for 5 acres of cover crops, you could do just fine with only a drag - the drag will work on small seeds as well. If you want to end up with totally smooth firm soil fine use both, but it wouldn't be _needed_.

Dad & I farmed for decades, only the last few years did I get a packer, we grew good alfalfa without one. I just happened on a good deal at a farm auction.

So, is this a list of what you want, or what you _Need_? You'd do fine with just a harrow, don't _need_ the packer. If you want it, that's cool, then add it to the list. :)

I'd want a harrow of some sort, if you only get one of the 2.

Man. thanks again. Going to wait on that one too.

With the money you've saved me, looks like I'm gonna be able to get my pallet forks afterall.
