I called a local dealer to get a price on a Landpride Aerator and I pretty much cr**ped my pants. Am I missing something here?

CA2560 $1,898.00
CA2572 $2,132.00
Liquid weight which I don't need $234.00.

He said there would be some freight and set up but he would take care of that????

Are these things typically this expensive, they just don't look like much or is there something special that it is the dollars it is.

Help me

Look at the Midwest Line they quoted me 875.00 for a 72" plus shipping. I dont know how they compare but everything I have purchased from them has been great.
P.S. My local dealer wanted 2400.00 for a off brand plus tax.

I do know that the "real" aerators are quite pricey. I was looking for one and my dealer basically told me that unless I was going to do professional work with it that it wouldn't be worth it. I don't think he even gave me a quote - just suggested that I rent one.

I've considered buying one of the cheapie models from Sears or Northern Tool that are just hollow tubes that poke into the ground, but even those are a couple hundred bucks - and if they don't work I don't want to waste my (limited) funds...

Those prices don't shock me, though. Them darn implements are expensive /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif...

It doesn't surprise me. Millcreek is in that range. That's why I didn't buy a new one.

I have to agree for what you get, it doesn't seem to be worth that much. When you figure how often you'll use it, it starts to look even more expensive.

The only thing that strikes me is that they're probably not massed produced so when ever the schedule says a bunch of guys start cutting metal, fitting up, welding and assembling. They're not making and selling millions of them a year so there's probably no automation of the process.

The other point is the dealer figures you'll have to want it bad enough to order so that's worth some money. Might be worth checking prices elsewhere.

Get the midwest one. Just as good as the landpride, ~1/3 the cost. I think Sweet Tractors still has First Choice branded ones. Or you might have a kioti dealer near you selling them branded as Kioti.

Aerating is one of the best things you can do for your lawn.

I believe the Woods Core Aerator was about 900-1000.00. I would check them. Woods is a very trusted brand.

Last fall I got a quote to aerate and over seed the front acre of lawn $1200. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif I said no thanks. So I got a Mid West aerator and Herd Seeder for $1192. Ok I have to buy the grass seed for about $100, so the first year cost will be $1292. BUT next year and the year after I will be ahead of the game. Not to mention I can aerate the lawn in the spring and fall!

You just have to get some prices to make it pay for the long run. Well that is how I sold it to the CFO for more toys/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Chris,

Don't waste your money. The cheap ones like you mentioned won't penetrate the ground enough to useful unless you load them up with enough weight to destroy them.

I was in the same boat last Fall, needed something to aerate 3 acres of clay a couple times a year, limited $$. Finally broke down and ordered the First Choice/Midwest 5' aerator through Carver, it was mid $600's if I recall. 4 dealers within 15 min of our house could not touch that deal.

Very solid, glad I didn't waste any $$ on the lightweight cheap ones.

I will have to check with Carver. I can't find a Midwest dealer around here for some reason. I don't find a locator on the Midwest page at all. Are the ones at Tractor Supply Midwest? $600 is not bad and more what I expected. I guess with three neighbors with tractors we could rent one for a day, split it three ways and it might not be so bad.
