Trying to get the mower belt covers off a Landpride FDR 2584 and the end knobs on both sides spin but don't spin out; feels like there's a thump-thump when turning. Is there a trick to getting these off. The other knobs screwed right out but I'm thinking they might be rusted-in. Heat, lube etc... suggestions appreciated.

based on what i can see in a stock google pic of one.... the deck is to thin to have them threaded directly into the deck sheet metal which likely means there is a nut welded to the under side. If thats the case then its spinning and the "thud thud" is the edge of the nut as it pases the location were it was once tac welded.

in short take a look at the bottom for a nut to hold on to.

My Landpride RFM is a GM2560. It has threaded inserts (not sure if this is the correct name) going through the deck housing that the belt guards thread into. Think of it as a large pop rivet with 1/4 20 threads on the inside. If the body of the insert is loose in the deck it would just spin around like you are experiencing. There should be enough sticking down underneath to get a pair of vise grips on.
