Landpride boxblade$

Am purchasing a boxblade soon. Looking at a Landpride 7ft heavy duty (1119lbs.) Dealer seemed concerned at first about the size. Have 45 hp 4wd with ag tires. Shows me a lighter duty (593 lbs)7 footer and an even lighter 6 ft(504 lbs.) that is in stock. Will sell the instock 7 medium duty for $1150. Can't remember what he said it retails for. From reading here, weight seems to be a good thing for boxblades. Will be moving a lot of dirt with clay and maintaining drives. Is the heavy blade too much for my situation? Landpride literature shows 65 hp rating max for the heavy duty and 40hp max for the medium duty. Is the price a good one for the lighter one that he wants to sell that is in stock? Didn't get a price yet for the heavy one. Would prefer the heavy one if it'll work.

Your tractor can handle the HD unit. Check the "side plates" of the box blade..if its HD they will be 1/2" thick (these are the verticle plates at the ends of the unit). Tell the dealer that you want something with 1/2" sideplates, if he can't get it, go somewhere else. I had my 7ft box blade shipped in from out of state as no one around here carried them (It came from Corriher down in NC). I don't even think they carry the HD unit any more..anyway, somebody will take your $$ even if your dealer won't. BobG in VA

I think he would order the hd, just haven't talked price and the talk of marginally pulling a 7 ft had me concerned. Was it just a case of trying to sell what's in stock?

I think you may be right in guessing they are trying to sell what is in stock. It is hard when you are in business to order something in when you have something similar sitting there. However you are the customer and should get what is best for you. Keep looking around for the one that will work best for your situation. Communication is a great thing so talk to them and hopefully they listen.

Just wasn't sure of the HD weight and my tractor-quite a bit of differnce between the 2.

Why seven foot? I ask because I think of most 45 hp tractors having roughly a 6' rear wheel width. I can understand the dealers concern about pulling the 7'. Once full of clay/dirt it is going to be a heavy load. Traction and travel speed will most likely be the issue. If it were me I would rather have a 6' HD, if close to covering your tracks, than a 7' med duty. The added weight of a HD really shines when working hard packed drives.

I have the rear wheels turned out so it is wider-thus 7ft desire.

I am a fan of HD equipment. However, 1119 lb box blade, 7' wide is probably a bit much for a 45 hp tractor. For cutting dirt, the scarifers are the key and you don't need much weight to get the scarifers to bury themselves. I would tend to look at the 593# unit.

I have an 82" HD gannon BB which is probably near 900-1000 lbs, a Kubota (gannon) 6' BB near 650 lbs and 5' gannon near 550 lbs. The real heavy gannon is a little harder to manage when final grading due to its weight and can dig too much or not smooth enough. I use the larger, HD gannon the least.

I would consider hydraulic scarifers if you plan to use it a lot. My 6' and 5' have hydraulic and the 82" has manual rollover scarifers.

I agree you would probably be very happy with a med duty. Covering your wheel treads is important so I agree the 7 foot makes sense. I've never seen one with 1/2inch side plates, that seems a little over kill and the side plates don't take that much aof a beating. I've bent scarifier teeth but thats the only thing I'v ever bent. I break traction before I can bend anything else.
