MY finish mower has always been rock solid. Today I was running over the lawn to get rid of a million daffodils that have shown up this year. Suddenly I can't keep the belt on the pulleys. I checked the tension and adjusted it but the tensioning pulley flops around badly when I try to run it. The pulley is solid but the entire assembly has a lot of slack in it at the mounting point. I can raise and lower the whole assembly at least a half inch. I looked at the blades thinking maybe one is badly worn but they don't look too bad although I haven't sharpened them in two years. All the other pulleys are solid and spin very freely without the belt. No signs of bad bearings.
Any ideas?
