Does anyone know how to loosen the PTO plastic shield on the implement end? I want to get the grease gun into the shaft ujoint. The plastic 'bell' seems to turn a few degrees relative to the long plastic sleeve but still seems fixed at the 'bearing' area at the end of the shaft. Sometimes the simplest things take the longest.....

Perhaps I can help if its a Eurocardan shaft. I ran into the same problem w/ the one I had. One end refused to come apart b/c the plastic pawls were too big. I (the mechanic actually) wound up breaking a part just to get it disassembled. Once done he ground the pawls back some. I think that was the tractor end though and IIRC the implement end was easy (relatively speaking). In any case the Eurocardan shaft shield snaps are pretty strong and you might need a lever to help it apart. Just in case you didnt notice theres a smallish 'button' on the collar that must be removed first. Once out the collar spins and then snaps off.

One more thing...I was able (many months ago) to find instructions for disassembly on the eurocardan website. It appears now that the english version of the website isnt working. So, unless you know Italian or French youre going to have to wait until its fixed/working again. Even if its not a Eurocardan I think most other shaft mfgs do have websites w/ instructions (Cormer did also). HTH

Thanks for the info; it sounds like we're dealing with the same thing. Kinda makes me wonder how many of those fittings ever see a grease gun. When positioned just right, there is a set of holes the gun could go through, it doesn't seem to line up. I've got more time tomorrow.....

When I readied an implement for storage one of the jobs I did was to take the shields off the shaft and clean/grease the entire thing (shaft/shield/etc). That way I knew theyd be in good order for the next time they were put to use and it goes a long way to keeping them in excellent condition.

If you need more help give a shout...I recall a fair amt of what I had to do to disassemble/reassmeble the thing and once youve done it a couple times its pretty easy. Havin the instructions helps alot. Perhaps asking Eurocardan for them would be helpful.

It wasn't too bad when I approached it with glasses and a screw driver. Eurocardin and some directions were embossed in the plastic. After the lock pin was disengaged, it came apart with a couple of twists (w/ a little attitude). The emulsion that squished past the seals when the grease gun was applied said it all. Thanks for the help; a couple of your old posts had more good info once I had the buzz words to search.... SteveV
