does anybody know if a landscape rake will pick rocks out of grass, like when the snowplow throws them in your yard?

I know what you mean about rocks from snow plowing,I had a ton of them this year.I tried my 7ft KK rake and it got a few of the bigger rocks off the grass but I still had to hand rake the smaller rocks.coobie

If you need to justify the purchase of one to a significant other - then "yes" it will. :D

PS - hopefully you are talking about rocks not tiny bits of gravel.

yeah, i am talking like gravel from a driveway, i could care less about pebbles and crap that small, but if it could get the majority i would be happy

Yes it will do a reasonable job if you don't drop it too hard, angle and drive pretty fast. I would do it without wheels.

Hi there,
I have a kk 6' rake and its my right hand man! I can rake just about any mess up which I make with either the FEL or rear blower, I move snow from 5 different driveways ranging from 100' to1800' long. All the mess is cleaned up, everybody is happy and now in the process of raking my lawn with it. I know it's more expensive than a hand rake but, its a lot more fun to use a tractor than do manual labor. It takes some seat time to do a good job but far as I'm concerned it's the only way to go!

how much on average does a good used one cost? or what do they cost new?

I have a Woods landscape rake with gauge wheels and it tears the heck out of the grass. Plus the tines are really not spaced close enough together to gather small rocks. It is great for smoothing my gravel side driveway and it helped smooth the lawn area before I planted grass. I would not use one for "raking" on a finished lawn.

If you do want to use a 3 pt "Rake" for stones, a Pine Straw type 3 pt rake would probably work best and they are pretty cheap, I think under $200.

I personally use a Stihl BR600 back pack blower and blow the stones back onto the driveway. A powered broom like the "sweepster" that the other poster mentioned would also work but they run around $2000 plus.

One of the tow behind lawn tractor sweepers might work for stones to but I have never tried one.

I agree with Andy - I use my rake for spring clean-up and rather than dropping the wheels I watch what the rake is doing and feather the position control to avoid tearing up stuff.

Still have to use a good old fashion manual hand rake to clean small stuff off the lawn though.
