Loking at Deere rakes. I have two questions.

Outside to outside, mny rears are 65" Should I get an 84" or will 72" work?

They list all work for light grading and material distribution, but some also do 'pick up' - what's that?

I have a similar quest. I think "pick up" refers to brush material etc.and for me that would be really useful. I find it so frustrating trying to use the FEL to pick up that stuff. I usually end up with one twig in the bucket The only problem is they seem expensive, so Im having trouble convincing the purchasing agent(the wife) that I need one. I think rear wheels on this implement are important

hey mike,
maybe go with the heavier 72", a bit
stronger frame, less chance for you
to twist it with that 4310...

and gage wheels are recommended
for any grading work, but expensive..

what kind of work do you need to do?

My 84" rake picks up almost every stick, rock and anything else that does not fit through the tines. By angling it, it windrows all the stuff picked up.
Get the 84" with gage wheels. You will not regret the extra width.
My tractor tires are 60" wide.

IT work is what I do. whatever It is I do It!

But the rake is for play. I live in this rocky hilly place (rockyridgefarm!) and want to rake rocks! For making an arena or two, For maintaining roads.

Mike go for the 84" rake. I have a 72, but my tractor is smaller.

Depending on how you set your top link, you will find that you can do anything from smooth out a rough surface all the way to work that aggressively picks up rocks, sticks, etc. I use one to clear off the corn stubble from the farm field and gather it (along with some topsoil) for compost. Its good for yard prep work too. I don't have a gravel drive, but some people like them for dragging their drives.
