Large Catfish plays Ball......

The following pictures come to me from a friend in Kansas. I don't know where they originate from, but I don't want to go swimming in that pond!!! Text of story below........

These pictures where taken at the pond behind someone's house.

Their neighbor saw a ball bouncing around kind of strange like and when he went to investigate, it was a flathead catfish with a child's basketball stuck in its mouth and the pictures tell the rest of the story. His wife did have to cut the ball in order to deflate the ball and release the catfish.

Junk ... it looks to me like that ball got in that cat's mouth the same way it got out.

Not too many big red spherical worms on the bottom of any pond.

I guess that set of pictures is really making the rounds. I received it yesterday via e-mail from someone here in Dallas.

It's hard for me to imagine a catfish trying to swallow a ball like that, but then weird things do happen. Several years ago, my dad, brothers, and I were fishing in my boat at Lake Whitney when I noticed something strange about a fish at the surface, so I eased over to it with the trolling motor and one of my brothers just dipped it up with the dipnet. It was a largemouth bass that had tried to swallow a sunfish that was too big and it was stuck in his mouth. Both fish appeared to be almost dead, but we got the sunfish unstuck and put both fish in the aerated live well. An hour later, they were both just fine and we released both of them back into the lake.

Like Bird, I also got an emailed copy of that this morning. It must be making the rounds in Texas. You can tell the incident didn't happen around here or the ball would be thrown back in the water and the fish would be in the boat getting ready to meet a skillet.

Lazy, if that's your fish, you make me sick. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Just once, I said just once, I would like to catch one even half that size. Looks like I'm going to have to start fishing closer to the cooling water outlet at the nuclear plant.
