This may seem DUMB and ,,,OK, so it is dumb.
I can't remember which way to turn the crank to adjust an implement for level.
It has been SO LONG since I moved it that it seems bound tight and I don't want to force it.
Right now it is close to level, so probably near the middle of its adjustment range.
If I could just get it to budge a bit.

Do these things come apart ?
If so how and are they repairable ?
If it is just rusted up, OK then taking it apart for a grease job MIGHT work.

I know I could replace it with a hydraulic one but... right now I just want a level rake.

I think CW raises it and CCW lowers it. Try pumping some grease into it and work it slowly back and forth until it breaks free.

I wish there was a good mark on the tube to show it's even with the left side...I either eyeball it if it doesn't matter or use a tape measure if it needs to be exact. If I recall correctly one full turn of the crank is 1/8 inch.

Good luck.

Run a level on the tractor to make sure it's level then the implement, if the tractor ain't level set the implement to the same bubble. Don't make this to difficult. If it's been that long since you moved it make sure you move the "keeper" up off the handle if equipped, I have grabbed the handle to crank when in a hurry and forgot that little item, but just for a second.

How to level an implement (relative to the tractor) wasn't the question.

The question was about how to repair a leveling box (or adjustable side link if you prefer that term).

I made a bit of progress yesterday.
I removed it to take some measurements with the thought of just replacing it with something from these folk; 3 point Hitch Kits for Compact Tractors
Their prices seem reasonable and I could wait a week or two for shipping.

While it was off I was able to determine that the lower part screws in and out OK, so at least I now know that isn't rusted up too bad to move at all.
I speculate that there is a fairly simple bevel gear between the handle and a nut that is turned.
Given that the lower half turns within the nut that is supposed to drive it, I'll bet that the bevel gear mechanism is what is seized up(probably rusted together).

I inverted it and sprayed penetrating oil into it, will let that soak.
I have also pumped grease in, maybe it will free up in a while.

In the mean time if I need to I can get any needed adjustment by removing the top pin and spinning the top half some number of turns, i.e. clockwise will raise that side, counter clock will lower it.

My humble apologies, carry on....

This shows most of what I think I need to know to pull it all apart;
LIFT LINK R EARLY VERSION - 42 - Branson Tractors

Not a "how to", but at least it confirms my suspicions about bevel gears and such.
Clockwise on the crank should lift it.
There is a POSSIBILITY that what is holding it from turning will also hold it from coming apart, so once I break it free I may not have to do much - as long as I don't BREAK it as I "break it free".

Maybe heat it up with a propane torch to free it up? Then it should have a grease fitting to lube it after it is freed up.

It didn't happen on a Branson but I did have one that one ofthe internal roll pins had worked part way out and was hanging,
that was a royal pain.

Yep, at a guess if I start taking it apart, using that diagram as a guide, I'll probably run into something like that.
Before I start driving pins out though I might take it off, turn it upside down and slosh a pint or so of 50/50 acetone/ATF mix in there - leave it for some number of days and try again.
