OK, who makes them. It says a Perkins engine, Dana axles. Has anyone seen them and what are your opinions?

Thx,

Jim

Foton. Good value for the money, but don't fall for Northern's "free shipping" gambit. The freight is hidden in the selling price. And don't expect that 82hp model to be available for much longer. For some reason - EPA restrictions I think - it's been replaced by a 70hp version. Same tractor, lower horsepower rating.

Anyway, the 82 (and 70) hp version are selling locally for $17,999 with cab and $12,499 without. It's a chain, so there are locations closer to you than where I live. Wooster, OH is probably the closest to you.

Which chain would that be???

Rural King. Word to the wise though, their service after sale left a bad taste in my mouth. Although to be fair, they may have improved in the years since I bought from them. But if there's a FOTON dealer closer, competent and dependable service after sale is always worth a few extra bucks up front.

That said, consider what kind of service after sale you could expect from a mail order tractor outfit.

We just got a couple of 82 and a 60 HP in and the new ones are MUCH nicer that the older ones I have seen at certain chain stores. One of ours even was fitted with a stereo system. The new balanced perkins (this engine factory is no longer part of Perkins and is owned by foton/Lovol) is silky smooth for a 4 cylinder (the older ones had some harmonic vibrations at certain RPMS that would almost shake the cab off). If there is a FOTON dealer near you, they should be able to come close to Northerns price because they include freight and a 7500lb tractor is not cheap to ship. I think FOTON/LOVOL (depending which name they settle on for US market) will become a strong player. They will be at the Farm Progress show in Decatur IL next week, in booth 418 (right by the food court) if anyone is going to be there, take a look and post a review here on TBN. I'd be interested in (honest, not prejudiced, review of the tractor, considering the price. OH and I think the 70 (same as 60) has been selected by the chain store to maintain a price point amist rising prices from the factory. the balance shaft alone added 500 to the wholesale cost, (worth it). There are no EPA issues that I am aware of, only the loss of the use of the Perkins name starting next year.

Bluechip,
I saw the 82 Hp model at the Westendorf booth of the Iowa State Fair last week. It looked nice. But they did not have the keys to let me inside. Mayer Farm Implements (MFI) had supplied the tractor with a front end loader. I guess they are going to spend more advertising dolars at the Farm expo than in their back yard.

PS My Lenar 304 has worked great so far. Though I have only put on 20 hrs of Rototilling and spraying this season.
