I'm about to purchase a dk50hst. I know it will handle a 6' but I was wondering if it would handle a 7'. I live in south mississippi. The field might be 2 to 4 foot brush, thick in places. I don't want to be bogging down because I have to big of a bush hog.

I've pulled a 7' hog over thick grown semi-flatland with a 45 horse HST unit, full speed in low range was no problem. Only wanted about half of the speed medium range provided due to the rough ground. I'd lay money and give odds your DK50HST won't have an issue with 7'...

Rule of thumb is 5HP/foot in "average" conditions.
Bush Hog lists a minimum of 40PTO HP for their 8' dual spindle cutters and 35-50HP for their light 7' dual spindle machines.
So, 6' should be good with any cutter out there in any conditions, 7' should be fine in most conditions, 8' is possible but is pushing it.

I'd agree with a seven footer but it really does depend mostly on how you use it. In heavy stuff 7 might be a bit much even for a 50hp. If just mowing fields then a dual spindle 8ft on wheels would seem to be easily managed by a DK50.

I currently have L3200HST with a 5' bush hog, and it's terrible in thick grass. It will cut but very slow sometimes to a stop or crawl. I would like to go with a 7' if I was for sure it would not slow me down.

If nothing else I will get a 6' for sure.

We have a L3830 (~35PTO HP) and it is unstoppable with a 5' brush cutter on the back. Looked at a 7' flail today and the seller has run it behind a L37XX and says that handled it just fine.

I pull a 5' with a 22-hp hydro. I pull a 6' with a 52-hp gear drive. If you have a larger cutter you may have to drop down a gear. Or go slower. The little tractor could pull the six footer but it would have to creep. If really depends on what you are going to use the cutter for. Mowing thin grass in a field or clearing brush in a thicket. Because we mow somewhat rough ground I would go with the wider/slower mower. There is also a large price increase from a 6' to a 7' which makes the decision for most people.

For a 50-hp tractor the smallest I would buy is a six footer.

I run a Rhino 6' on a 45 hp. Regularly mow hay - 18"+ to keep the weeds down plus have cleared alders(average 1.5' thick) without any issues. Could probably run a 7' for just regularly grass/weed maintenance. I run it around 1800 rpms.

I run a Kodiak 6' on my DK40SE HST and it blows down everything up to and including 4" saplings w/ no issue. And I drive through, and knock down, waist high brush regularly :drink:
