Article that I read on the plane the other week about how the travel industry for years lurked on Internet discussions, only reading the issues. Recently, the industry (hotels, in particular) decided to actively engage in comments. In the past, they were always leery about being attacked and dumped on. In active participation situations, the travelers love it, and the hoteliers love the. No flaming, just constructive dialogue (win-win). Most big hotel chains now have an employee dedicated to following, and publicly addressing, the questions and issues. So… why don't the tractor factory reps join in these discussions? Issues and questions could be laid to rest quickly. As the hoteliers found out, it builds a dedicated clientele base.
During that particular trip, I finally (after 25 years in the business) got to witness a launch (the Shuttle) up close and personal. Talk about raw horsepower. If it don't shake the earth, it ain't nothing!
On the same subject matter, I saw part of a Fox broadcast the other night on how the Apollo moon missions were all a hoax. One guy was saying how only atmosphere (breeze) could make the flag wave. Yup, no such thing a kinetic energy in a low-gravity low-vacuum situation. The flag was just planted… the energy has to be transmitted somewhere! Another 'scientist' stated that the radiation levels would 'bake' the astronauts. Hummm… If I remember correctly, 'scientist' also once stated that if a man broke the sound barrier, his ears would fall off. (Are you listening Chuck Yeager, or are your ears gone?) That's when I had to turn it off.
It's that time of year that I peruse corporate data. Noticed that the Kubota Fiscal 2001 Consolidated Interim Financial Results (http://www.kubota.co.jp/english/c-data/fr/title.htm) mentions the BX as a factor in increasing North American market share. It takes quite a feat to get mentioned in a one-page synopsis for reams of financial data within a large conglomerate. Hopefully the 2001 Annual Report (expect mid-March) will give more details (actual sales). Also read JD and CNV (NH) data, no surprises.
Maybe tomorrow night, I will actually sleep.
