have around lawn that used to be a old fram field (30 yrs old) anyways the lawn is very rough with holes and ruts. very bouncy ride when cutting. what would the best approach be to grading and leveling lawn. please advise
Welcome to TBN.
There handful attachment could do the job..harrows,box blade, tiller, scraper blade,etc...
depending how big your lawn might consider rent/hire dozer to level or back drag.
I used to landscape yards years ago. We used a box blade to level it and then rakes (by hand) to get the rocks, sticks, clods etc, out of it.
These were subdivision size yards, so it may not work if you have a 5 acre yard.
to keep from tearing all the grass out and leveling under it, I have had some good luck with a set of disc harrows, set the gangs to cut straight. so you are just slicing the sod not destroying it. make several passes in both dirctins so that yard is checkerboarded. Then go over it wit a heavy roller. to flatten it all out.
I attack the high spots with my loader buddy in reverse, fill in the holes with dirt as needed. Don't want to redo the whole lawn. I am reclaiming some field to mow and am dealing with old furrows and the like. In the end it will be smooth enough to get a little speed on the zero turn.
Actually it is 4 acres and not concerned about the grass -based on every ones comments run over with box blade followed with york rake - and heavey roller. do not think i could talk wifey into dozer, but will try
A disc has always amazed me how well they take care of furrows etc. It will take some time to get it perfect that way but I have seen it done it depends on what tools you have available I suppose?
I am having to re do most of our 3.5 A. Not worried about the grass either so I rolled the harrows over in the aggressive position and then put the training wheels on the rake and have had good results.
