I have a query: This week I am redoing a former dining room that has a very costly ($14 per square yard) sheet vinyl floor, and rather than install carpeting with foam padding and tack strips (which will have to be nailed to the undamaged vinyl floor) I purchased a really heavy duty backing commercial carpet remnant that is so stiff it will lie flat with no need for tack strips. Since it will be an exact fit in the room (11'X11') it cannot possibly slide around. Does anybody know if I should place some kind of protection atop the existing vinyl floor such as builder's paper, clear plastic, etc. to protect the vinyl from being scuffed up by the abrasive backing on the carpet? Or is that a needless concern? The room will get little traffic.
Thanks much for any input you can provide.
