My battery has been running down and I checked the generator which was bad and installed a new one. The voltage now registers 13.6 volts so it's working, but the dash idiot light for charging won't go off when the tractor is running. What might cause this to happen?

Voltage regulator has been known to cause this symptom.

I used one for a 1970 Toyota pickup on my lk2554 and it has been working perfectly. The plug and wiring was the same. It should be the same as yours as well.

You may have a loose or dirty battery connection. Check the battery voltage when the tractor is not running then check it again when the tractor is running. Turn on some lights and see if it varies.

While we're at it, I believe a Mazda B2000 alternator bolts right in after swapping pulleys with the OEM.

Thanks I suspected it might be the voltage regulator.
