Am I the only one who is "Leaf Lazy"?

I don't like raking leaves in the fall. And I really don't like picking leaves up and transporting them for disposal. My lawn is about two acres with over twenty trees, and I finish mow another acre of narrow lanes that are bordered by several hundred trees. I get lots of leaves!

I have decided to reduce the size of the leaves and leave them in place on my lawn and lanes using my MMM. I mow rectangular areas, discharging to the center of the area, until I have a narrow windrow of leaves. Then I continue with multiple mowing passes over the leaf pile, discharging outward and then back inward and back outward until I am satisfied with leaf size and lawn appearance. My last passes generally disperse the small pieces outward until they almost disappear.

My results have been very good, looking better than when I used to rake, and as good (at least from looking across the road) as my neighbors that pick up and bag. Anyone else using this or a similar method?

leaf lazy is beneficial for your lawn! don't waste the natural resources falling from the trees. if you don't spread them and mulch them in place, compost or spread directly on the garden for tilling under!

another great thing to do after using your method is aerate and/or dethatch after a couple of weeks to mix the leaf debris into the topsoil. then fertilize with good winter fertilizer to get some nitrogen mixed in with the carbon of the leaves and you'll have beautiful grass come spring....

Don't forget that if you use a lot of leaves for fertilizer you should check the soil pH and adjust with lime accordingly. I used a small mountain in my garden one year and couldn't figure out why some plants didn't grow so good that year. Checked the pH later that year and found it was through the roof.

I hauled about 10 4'x8' trailer and FEL full loads to the compost pile yesterday and layered it with dirt. Filled both bins. The rest I ran over with the mower (with mulching rings) and it looks pretty good right now but there are still lots to come down yet. I'll probably blow them into piles and run over them too. I hate raking leaves unless they are going for compost.

I must have at least 40 oak trees in my yard right around my house. Last week I put the mulching adapter on my JD riding mower and got busy. It took me probably twice as long to do the lawn as it would to mow, but I was rewarded with all mulched leaves and no raking or bagging except for flower beds. Within a couple of hours, there were new leaves fallen on the lawn, but I don't care because I'll mulch once a week during the leaf season and next spring I'll have nicer grass.

I mulch much the same way but I start in the middle and discharge toward the outside. By the times I get to the edge where the flower beds are, the leaves are in tiny pieces and I just blow them into the beds as mulch.

I'm not as organized as you guys, I just mow over them and keep doing it until I get them all. It does take allot longer then just mowing the grass, but it's sure allot easier then bagging them.

My house lies roughly in the middle of about 3.5 acres that I keep mowed real nice. Once fall arrives, I let the leaves accumulate a bit (but not too much).

I then go around the house, blowing the gutters, and the flower beds into the yard. Once done with that, I start mowing around the house, working outward as I go. I use a Ferris Pro-Cut 20 60" Zero Turn Commercial mower.

By the time I get to the outside of the yard - No more leaves!

I do this about 3 times @ 1.75 hrs ea.

Haven't touched a rake in 5 years.

Luv it.
