So found a few drops of oil today on the toe of my boot. It looks to be coming from the bottom of my lift control and not from the hose connectors on the back side. Also my lift capabilities are a bit less than normal and I have noticed occasional quick decent in the lift circuit. Any advice before I tear into this controller?

Before you tear into the controller you should be VERY sure how the fluid is getting out of the controller. If the problem is indeed the controller itself and you must stop the leak you may find it necessary to replace it not repair it. The tolerances inside are generally tighter than those which can be addressed in a home type shop. I'm not sure how many hydraulic shops can work on it.

Oil could be leaking from the caps at the bottom of the valve. If this is the case try tightening the Philips head screws that hold them on. More than likely, the oil is coming from the plungers at the top of the valve block. There are O-rings on the valve shafts that get worn. They are pretty easy to replace. Over time, the little rod that makes the detent (float) work gets worn out. I am not sure if this can be replaced or not. In my experience, re-building the unit did not work, new O-rings did not fix the problem. I recommend replacing the entire unit. Power Trac sells them for somewhere in the $ 300 range. This will fix the oil leak and the detent. It is pretty easy to change the whole thing. I used different colored zip ties to keep track of the different hydraulic lines.

Did you find your problem? As stated, locate the leak. If you think the lift capacity is reduced, you may find your relief valve loose and backing off. If that is what you find, you will have to reset your max hyd pressures for those circuits and not just arbitrarily tighten it up.

Turned out it was a hose on the backside that had the very slightest fail point So back to work I go.
