Hi there,
I have a Ford 4110, 2WD, 3-cyl diesel all purpose tractor manufactured in England in September, 1988. I live in Australia.
There is a significant leak at the join between the top housing assembly of the power steering unit (Part No: E4NN3C516AA) and the lower housing assembly of the power steering unit (Part No: E4NN3548AA). I have pin-pointed the exact location of the leak (pic attached).
My questions:
1. There are 3 shims that fit the space (E4NN3595AA 0.25 mm; E4NN3595BA 0.13 mm and E4NN3595CA 0.05 mm). Would I just pick one of these to fit or do all 3 need to be fitted? I know in engine head shims there are various thickness that are used - is this the same deal?? i.e. I'd just use one.
2. It also lists 2 identical gaskets for the space (Part No: E4NN3593AA). Perhaps the 3 shims are spaced in some arrangement with the 2 gaskets?
3. I was hoping to just undo the 4 nuts at the leaking join that hold the top and bottom of the unit together, after of course having disassembled all the stuff around it to get to it etc. Are there any surprises in store for me?
4. Should I replace any other seals in the unit while I have it semi-apart? There are no other leaks.
5. Finally, I also have the seals for the leaking hydraulic steering rams. Any tricks to replacing these? I have a good workshop and moderate engine repair experience.
Best, Ged
