Welcome to TBN:D

It's a easy job...order the seal kits (you want to do the cylinders in pairs) and post pictures of your cylinder and we will walk you through it. Plenty of post's here already if you want to search....

I had a cylinder that needed a new seal.... research showed it was about $150 to send it off and get it done, plus shipping. Found local hydraulic place...took it off implement and to hydraulic shop...they took one look at it (I had disassembled it so it was obvious which seal was busted) and dashed to the back... came back completely assembled, no charge, comment was that they would appreciate being remembered when I had a "real" hydraulic problem that needed their help... I sure will remember them:thumbsup:

That's another approach to doing it yourself....

I was a complete newbie in hydraulics as well- I have a old homemade woodsplitter with cylinder that wass leaking and in pieces when I got it and ruined shaft. I looked around online here and internet, only found little help. With few positive comments from wayne county hose here, I took my cylinder to one shop, didnt want to rebuild it due to bad shaft. I took it home and hand sanded the shaft for hours and hours (rust) till I think I got it smooth and clean. I went to another shop and just gave them the gland end and pistion. told em I need seals for it. this guy just took his calipers and took measurements and said be right back and got all the parts in 5 mins and said here you go. he showed me which one goes where and then I went home andd assembled it. Peice a cake, easier then I thought.

If I were you, I would take the cylinder off and on your bench. take it apart and take both ends with you to local shop and ask for seals.

If you're in no great hurry, you have some options. Many times, the dealers get more for the packing kits than I get to reseal the whole cylinder, and you get a 1 year warranty. I get my kits from the same place the dealers get them, well, the manufacturers anyway. They come in the same exact bag. Price the kit out first. Kubota tends to be way offline with their pricing. If you want to do it yourself, a local hydraulic shop could get the same kit for you as the dealer will get but at less than half their price. Now this also depends on the age of your loader. There may not be a kit available for it anymore. You will have to research it. www.herculesus.com. Download their catalog and look for your seal kit. They won't sell to you unless you have a tax id#. If there isn't a kit available, the cylinder will have to be disassembled and the seal style matched up then measured. All the seals will have to be ordered individually. Also, extend the cylinder all the way. Grab the rod in your thumb and index finger. Run your hand slowly up and down the rod. Feel for any imperfections in the rod. No sense in sealing a rod that has a burr. If you want to get the kit and do it yourself, post pics and many of us here can walk you through it.

Good luck,
Andy
