I noticed last night, on my YM2200, what appeared to be trans fluid leaking from the gear shift, from under the shield?

I can take apart and put stuff together, but does this sound easily fixable?

Hopefully my new found favorite online shopping store man, at Hoye can help me out........lol

Is the transmission over filled?

I have had this happen a few times and it has been dirt dobbers. I don't know what you call them in your part of the country but they are little non stinging wasp that build a nest out of mud. They will dob dirt in the vent tube and then oil comes out from under the shift lever shield. This was happening so often that I finally stuck a small plastic tie wrap in the tube and left it there so they couldn't get in and stop it up.
Another time....I loaned my tractor to a...uh...person...to bush hog his yard so the snakes wouldn't bite his kids. He, with good intentions, checked all the fluids. He discovered that the hydraulic oil was so low he couldn't see it. He didn't know there was a level mark on the dipstick, so it took 5 gallons to fill it to the top. When I got it back he told me that I was running the hydraulic fluid dangerously low. I know it was 5 gallons because that is how much I had to drain out of it.
So if it isn't overfilled, check the vent tube, usually under the seat first. It is a question mark (?) shaped tube, to keep rain from getting in. It just unscrews out of the upper tran case. Blow through it and see if it is clogged, because sometimes you can't see the clog because of the way it is shaped.

never did find the vent tube under the seat.

haven't run it enough since this post to see any more leaking. One thing I have noticed is the o-ring for the cap/dipstick is split, but still doesn't explain the oil coming out of the shifter.

there is an o-ring and a rubber boot under the shifter on the YM2200.

so possibly the o-ring is shot?

on my YM2200, there is a metal cup that the shifter comes up thru. does the shift just thread out?

No, you need to remove the 4 small bolts and pull the shifter up and out so you can take it apart. There is a roll pin that holds everything together. The o-ring could be bad, the rubber boot could be bad, too much oil in the transmission, or a vent plugged up.

Danny The o-ring is p-12 ( there is more than 1 model YM2200 )
