hydraulic fluid leaking on lower side of hub is this a remove/clean/inspect job for me or a master mechanic

If it's a slow leak, you could try using heavier weight gear oil. Switching to 85-120 worked for me.

I replaced the O rings in my front right on my JD650 4WD at the time. I did buy the O rings at John Deere, and had no problem doing the job. It never leaked again.

"hydraulic fluid leaking on lower side of hub." I do not believe you have hydraulic fluid in the 2120 NH front hubs. They take gear oil.... 85-120W and are not part of any hydraulic system. On the diagram #4 is the outer sump cover, and #9-10 is the inner sump. These are precisely fitted. Once the bolts are off, just be careful separating them. I used a knife as a wedge and worked and tapped all around till they separated. The whole unit just pulls straight out off the pinion gear. On rebuild, i put a tiny bead of "form-a-gasket" on the index rim of the outer sump cover. No leaks.

Actually New Holland specifies 134 hydraulic oil or it's equivalent in the 2120 front axle.
Not to say gear oil doesn't find its way into some.

Try to slowly loosen the fill plug to see if you have any pressure in the case.

They dont have breather plug on the diff case.

Figure out where its leaking.

JasperFrank gave you an exploded diagram.

Looks like #12 would be the oil seal. Is it leaking there where the hub rotates about the end of the axle and running down the hub? Or is it actually leaking somewhere else. Like where part #28 bolts on to retain the lower bearing? That diagram doesnt show a gasket...so maybe its just RTV to seal there. If so, that looks like a simple job to drain, pop that cover, reseal and reassemble.

The seal is a little more indepth but not difficult at all. Just did one on my kubota which is a similar setup.

And yes....lots of these FWA tractors come with hydraulic fluid in the front axle. Most people swap to gear oil at first change interval. If yours still has hydro oil in there, simply swapping to gear lube my buy you some time and stop the leak for now.

Pressurized case will push fluid out when it heats up and expands. Fix one seal and the next weakest link starts to weep fluid.
