I was running it pretty hard today and when I finshed I noticed that one of the front wheel final drives on my TN is leaking. I little bit of oil all over the wheel.

I could not find the right wrench to check the level and it was getting late. So...that will need to wait till tomorrow.

Anyone else seen this problem?

I hope its something simple like a loose plug, but I doubt I will be that lucky.

Well with the day light and a little rest......

It turns out that it was not leaking after all.
The oil was spilled from another source.. ....... long story. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

But the worry that I had run the final drive empty due to a leak incouraged me to check these things more often.

For those of you new to a TN, you need a 12 mm allen wrench to pull the drain plug in the middle of the front wheel hubs.. This is the same size wrench you will need for the oil drain plug.
That and a 18" length of 1" OD black iron pipe to use as a lever on that allen wrench.

As a future TN owner I am glad to here this worked out well. I was under the impression the 12MM wrench came with the Tractor new.? I thought I had all the Metric tools covered but this is a new one. Thanks

Not with mine.

You will need a set of metric sockets (up to about 20 mm if memory serves) and allen wrenches (up to 12 mm) to fully service the machine yourself.
Sears stocks the 12 mm wrench. Most of the box stores stop at 10 mm.
Of course this is not required you can just let the dealer do the job.

Other handy items:
An impact wrench is also very helpful but not required.
Also a can of slip plate for PTO shafts and ball ends, a good grease gun ( I like the air powered units), and a big rubber hammer.
The hammer is for adjusting the attitude of 3 point implements and their pins, which is needed from time to time. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I also keep a couple of adjustable wrenches and a can of wasp spray in the tractor, pliers, etc...

It all depends on how far you are away from your tools. For me it can be the better part of a mile, so I try to have everything handy if possible.

I am cheap so I do it all myself unless it's under warranty or very major.

This TN has been bullet proof and I work it very hard with all manner of farm work. You can not go wrong with these tractors.
