My buddy has a 8n and the Gas tank is leaking at one of the seams. Does anyone know if this can be brazed over or does the tank need to be replaced.

Thanks Jray

Couple of things to consider..where on the seem..bottom,middle,top.

How big is the leak.

Does the metal of the tank seem solid..good shape w/little rust.

What the replacement cost of a tank.

If the metal in good shape and the leak near the top I would consider a steady hand trying to patch the leak..but if the leak near the bottom and the metal not all that good shape I would seek another tank..ain't nothing worse than leaking gas tank in the back 40 on a hot summer day,or the dead of winter trying to patch the hole again or replace the tank. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

There sure are alot of gas tank sealers available. You might want to try one. Most of the products are targeted at old cars - Take a look at hemmings.com.

There are many epoxy based patches available for both batteries and gas tank repair. I'm sure you will have to remove it, and thouroughly clean the area.. but a stick of gas tank epoxy beats the price of a new tank... if the areas is small enough to repair.

You can get a kit from JC Whitney to seal the inside. You first use a rust converter, then coat the inside with a urethane. I used it in my 900 Ford a couple years ago and the results were great.
