For the past several weeks I have been having a problem with oil leaking out from around the bolts and top plate of the hydraulic oil storage tank. I took the top plate off and twice used silicone gasket maker and both times it failed. I then purchased cork gasket material and made my own gasket to fit the top plate. As I have almost 400 hours on my 425 I decided to drain the oil and replace with new. It also was a good time to check the bottom of the tank for any debris, which to my thankful surprise was very clean.
I also checked the cap to be sure that the pressure relief holes were clear and open. I was getting to much tank pressure, which I think was caused by the cap not venting.
This in turn caused the original tank cover seal to fail in the first place.
The following pictures tell the tail of making the gasket and installation. An easy process that only took an hour.
I ended up buying 10W40 oil at Costco even though it was in quart containers. The bulk price was higher at the local coop.
