Leaking Hydraulic cylinder

I have a grapple that has one of the cylinders leaking around the seal at the top. I see that where it's leaking there looks to be a place you could use a punch and a hammer to turn a nut on top . I haven't tried it yet, I just wanted to know if this might do the trick or do you have to take it off and have a new seal put in. This is a fairly new grapple less than 5 or 6 hrs on it . I've never messed around with one before , so any info would be appreciated, thanks

it's going to need to come apart, those are spanner wrench holes you see. if you are going to take it apart protect your chrome rod before you start. are you leaking around the rod or the outside of the gland (part with holes in it). you may only have to replace an o-ring if it's not leaking around the rod. look for damage to the rod and for any misalignment or binding in the cylinder mounting. it could be something that was done when it was assembled as quick as it failed. if it is around the gland look for damage to the cylinder id where the o-ring seats.

I called the maker of the grapple and told them about the problem with the cylinder leaking and without a Q. there sending out a new replacement today.Skid Steer Express got back to me the same day ,and I only had to take a photo of the cylinder and the serial number for them. :thumbsup:

Can you tell what make the cylinders are? Was there anything abnormal that happened to them? Cylinder seals should last for a long time. Also, what is your relief pressure set at? Do you know? My aux relief is at 2000#, lower than my FEL relief.

I don't know what make they are ,but I wouldn't mind trying to find out . I'll drop them a e-mail tonight.
I've used my grapple for a number of things from rocks(lg ones) to lifting logs and raking up limbs with it .
I don't have any way to check the relief pressure ,but as far as I know that it hasn't been messed with from the factory .
I am running the grapple off my rear remotes .

Also if they have standard cylinder connectors that could be easily replaced post warranty with a known brand. Curious if these are from China

I have a 1996 John Deere 755 Compact Tractor with a 70 Loader. I bought this tractor and I am rebuilding it. The cylinders on the loader are leaking. Where can I get repair kits other than John Deere ? Thank you.
