Hi there,
Ironically there's a post about a front-axle leak. Anyway, looked around and didn't see anything like this problem posted, so here goes:
My left-hand rear axle seems to be leaking a couple to few drops of oil every 24 hours. I've tightened the axle bolts down a bit, but not too much. I don't want to damage or break these bolts! Anyway, the leak doesn't bother me too much, other than I'm concerned that there might be something more problematic on the horizon... And, BTW, it's a YM1601d, 4x4. I use the PTO (for brushing and mowing) and 3-point (hauling and grading (box)) quite a bit... Would this have a negative/deteriotive effect??? I"ve included a picture of what/where the leak is... Thanks for any/all help, I'm really enjoying this forum !! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif --arthr

arthr31,

I had the same problem.........and you can let it go for awhile as it really doesnt effect anything, but I hate leaks so: As I recall you must pull axles by removing your lift arm assembly and removing axle snap rings. I am not at my shop or I would include pictures of one torn down. You may need to press bearings off and on (probably). It also provides the opportunity to inspect brakes and clean up or replace if necessary. Good winter project. Good luck, Mark

Thanks for the response, Mark. I may want to tackle such a project late winter -- do you have any recommendations where I could lookup procedures or more detailed information on how to do this axle work? Thanks again. -Arthr

Arthr, Yes.

I strongly recommend a service/shop manual. Every manual (almost) that I have ends up with the customer who buys the tractor. I probably should not do that, but they almost always ask and I does help them out.

I could tell you how to remove and replace from memory, but I would hate to omit one small thing that may leave you with a big headache, so buying the manual is really the way to go.

There are several dealers here on TBN that will give you the closest U.S. make - the purchase will provide you with the confidence to tackle every aspect of your tractor and any future problems....$50. can save you hundreds when you do the repairs yourself.

Good luck, Mark
