Ive searched the site and got lots of information for the exact problem but the solutions scare me.

Tractor is a '69 Massey 135. Has the perkins motor and CAV pump. The pump is leaking out of the shutoff switch. The threads have all said tear it apart and replace the o rings but then have major warnings about loosing springs and allowing dirt to enter the pump will ruin it. The leak stops when the fuel shutoff is pulled.

Could this be the reasoning for slightly difficult starts? I consider them great for a tractor of the age but it does have to crank a number of times to get running. Secondly am I throwing the air fuel mixture off and possibly damaging the tractor/loosing power. It is a drip leak but steady drip when the fuel is turned on.

I figured if it was worth fixing the leak it was probably worth doing a complete overhaul but didn't want have to put $1k into a decently running tractor.

G'day Scott whilst it is an easy repair it is one that needs to be done with due care. If you are careful and clean then there should be no prob as you have found out it is only O rings and a gasket. It is hard at times to tell people what to do on here as you have no idea of what their level of mechanical knowledge is. If you have some mech skills then it is not an impossible job
